Steve Blume, founder, started his career at a young age. During his childhood, he had a fascination with amateur radio and electronics. He embraced an electrical engineering academic path.  With career stops at City of Los Angeles, NV-Energy, formerly Sierra Pacific Power Company, and landed in San Diego, where he started-up Applied Professional Training, Inc. (APT). APT grew to be an accredited college, offering degree programs in electric power systems, renewable energy resources, and telecommunications.

For the past 35 years as an electrical engineering expert, Steve founded a private for-profit accredited college, collaborated with clients to develop and deliver their custom training courses and programs plus consulted for Fortune 100 electric power, telecom, manufacturing, and construction companies, public utilities, and law firms.

Steve has provided technical and educational services in generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of electrical power, including renewable energy resources, smart grid enrichments, and telecommunications. Telecommunications engineering and instruction includes fiber optics, wireless, power line carrier, and smart home and building applications.

Steve has written, and Wiley & Sons have published two books; Electric Power System Basics for the Non-electrical Professional (EPSBNP) and High Voltage Protection for Telecommunications (HVPT). Steve has written several industry white papers, presented industry seminars, and volunteered time for the benefit of industry leaders and non-profit organizations.

Net-net of this, Blume Consulting is available to help with your Electrical Engineering, Expert Witness, Training Development & Instruction, and Support services projects.

Publications

EPSBNP Book: A beginner's guide to understanding electric power system basics.

Book: EPSBNP (ISBN: 978-1119180197)

Electric Power System Basics for the Non-electrical Professional. This book aims to give non-electrical professionals a fundamental understanding of large interconnected electrical power systems, better known as the “Power Grid”, with regard to terminology, electrical concepts, design considerations, construction practices, industry standards, control room operations for both normal and emergency conditions, maintenance, consumption, telecommunications and safety.

Book: HVPT (ISBN: 9780470276815)

High Voltage Protection for Telecommunications. There is growing concern that new engineers, planners, and field technicians are not aware of the danger and reliability issues surrounding proper protection of telecommunications circuits in high voltage environments. Using a practical, hands-on approach, HVPT combines essential information and key issues into one book designed for managers, engineers, planners, and technicians.
